One of the most common uses for Therapeutic Reflexology is to help treat stress & anxiety, because Reflexology is very effective in balancing the energy flow of the inner meridians (Kidney & Bladder). A full reflexology treatment on the feet where attention is focused on where we feel the ‘fight or flight’ response. So when treating a child with anxiety holding the solar plexus reflexes on the feet while telling the child to breathe slowly will have a very calming effect.

Reflect today on the meaning of this day – let us honor the earth & the concept of peace.
Take a moment to remove your shoes and socks, to ground your feet and look up to the sky with gratitude in your heart. Let us feel the energies Mother Earth provides us. Demonstrate support for environment protection.
For many gardening can cause back, shoulder, arm and knee pain & Reflexology is extremely effective for all these pains. Nerve flow to these areas is improved and with additional sessions optimized.
It is important to remember Therapeutic Reflexology is not a foot massage. Registered Reflexologists look for congested areas and apply special pressure techniques to de-congest those reflex areas. When a reflex point is painful, discomfort signals a possible issue and must be worked through. The body has its way to release endorphins, which is the natural pain killer.
The Golden Rule: the closer together the sessions are in the beginning, the faster the recovery and then maintenance as needed.

So the first thing to point out is that reflexology is actually incredibly beneficial for both circulation and the nerves within the feet. And aside from all the other benefits that can be gained by regular reflexology for diabetics the benefits in reducing foot discomfort in my experience really are quite amazing – See more at: http://www.vitality-centre.com/reflexology-and-diabetes#sthash.LhT0ptWh.dpuf
Reflexology is great for the localized symptoms of poor circulation and neuropathy (a tingling, numbness, coldness, pain or loss of sensation due to never damage).
A study undertaken at Anglia Ruskin University in the U.K., published in “Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice” in August 2007, examined the effectiveness of reflexology in a hospital / healthcare setting, with some participants undergoing reflexology and a control group receiving no treatment.
The research determined that reflexology in this type of setting strongly reduced anxiety. The report ultimately concluded that, given the recognized connection between stress and well-being, the ability of reflexology to lessen stress may prove beneficial for patients.

Below is part of a good article that I enjoyed reading summarizing what reflexology research has been done in different areas such as: women’s health, men’s health, children’s, senior’s, pain relief and reflexology improving quality of life. I found it under Barbara and Kevin Kunz who have been doing reflexology in the US and have written many books on reflexology.
I hope that you will find this article of interest as much as I have, – Ana
“Reflexology enthusiasts believe that reflexology influences each of the body’s internal organs and systems as well as impacting symptoms of illness. Studies have shown such assertions to be valid for much of the body as well as many health concerns. Research has shown what reflexology can do: provide an opportunity for those seeking to “age well,” contend with health concerns, improve quality of life, recover from surgery, and/or address end of life issues. Reflexology has also been shown to provide loved ones with an effective, non-invasive means of showing that one cares.”
